DESCRIPTION:The National Science and Media Museum is taking science on the road this summer holidays with an exciting programme of free activities for all the family to enjoy.\nWhile the museum is temporarily closed for a ‘once in a generation’ transformation\, the museum’s team of Explainers will be popping up in venues across Bradford district to showcase inspiring hands-on science activities and demonstrations. Meanwhile\, back at the museum\, Pictureville Cinema remains open with a fantastic family offer throughout the summer. \nEXPERIENCE BRADFORD SCIENCE FESTIVAL \nExplore surprising science as Bradford Science Festival heads into the city for a series of free family fun days\, with events taking place on the following dates: \nMonday 14 August at Womenzone \nThursday 17 August at SHINE West Bowling \nSaturday 19 August at MAPA Cultural Arts Centre \nTuesday 22 August at Laisterdyke Hub \nGET CREATIVE AND DISCOVER STEM IN FREE WORKSHOPS \nThe museum’s Explainers will be in venues across Bradford throughout the summer showcasing free science activities and workshops. Take part in two special workshops\, including Tinkering with Toys which explores the history of toys and games and how they’re made\, with a chance for families to make their own toys to take away\, and Game\, Set\, Match which will explore the fascinating story of sports on TV and radio\, with a chance to get creative and imagine what sports coverage might look like in the future. \nThe Explainers will be appearing at the following venues on various dates between Wednesday 26 July – Thursday 31 August. Specific dates and times can be found on the museum website and will be published weekly via the museum’s social media channels. \nBradford Museums and Galleries – Bolling Hall Museum; Bradford Industrial Museum; Cartwright Hall Art Gallery; Cliffe Castle Museum. \nBradford Libraries – Bingley; Burley; Café West; City; Clayton; Eccleshill; Great Horton; Idle; Ilkley; Laisterdyke; Manningham; Shipley; Silsden; Thornton; Wibsey; Wyke. \nSEE THE LATEST BLOCKBUSTERS AT PICTUREVILLE CINEMA \nPictureville Cinema is still open seven days a week throughout the summer. See the latest blockbusters\, including Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One\, as well as Barbie and Oppenheimer. \nThere will also be family matinee performances throughout the holidays. With screenings of Ruby Gillman\, Teenage Kraken; Elemental; and Puffin Rock and the New Friends. The latest cinema programme and tickets are available via the website. \nHAVE A SPLASH AT CITY PARK \nAfter taking in a film at Pictureville and seeing the Explainers out and about\, why not enjoy the fantastic public space at City Park and cool off in one of the largest urban mirror pools in the UK\, located on the doorstep of the museum. \nFOLLOW THE TRANSFORMATION \nThe museum\, IMAX and Cubby Broccoli screen are temporarily closed to the public until summer 2024 to undergo a £6m once-in-a-generation transformation. Thanks to support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and money raised by National Lottery players\, the major Sound and Vision project will create two new galleries\, an additional passenger lift and an enhanced foyer space. In addition to funding received from The National Lottery Heritage Fund\, the project also has support from the DCMS/Wolfson Museums and Galleries Improvement Fund 2022-24\, City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council\, and the Science Museum Group\, which the National Science and Media Museum is a part of.
